Hello Members, here's the latest update from the engineer responsible for this HP EliteDisplay S230tm touch issue. A driver is now available but is not on the HP website. You will need to. (Edited-Before you are able to create a case you will need to register and create an account. Click on 'Register' at the top of the page or click.) You can also contact the HP team supporting your location. HP Support should then create an IMPACT ID and escalate to 2LS to whom the engineer will provide the driver.
Aug 8, 2014 - These HP TouchSmarts had touch screens made by a New Zealand company. NWFilter.zip - NextWindow 1900 Multi-touch Windows Driver. Aug 12, 2015 I tried rolling back to Windows 8.1, since minutes proir to the Windows 10 upgrade my touch screen was working perfectly, but after doing so the same problem was present in 8.1. No touch screen functionality, no apparent driver.
You will be contacted for downloading of the driver. For those of you who have worked with me behind the scene and have responded to my latest PM, I am in the process of re-escalating the issue on your behalf. Thank you very much for your patience. Edited Apr 10, 2017 at 16:43 UTC. Hello @perbauer, thank you for your post and we also appreciate the helpful feedback from the other IT Pros. See the input from our consultant who also shared that, 'This is a huge issue influencing all touch monitors of all brands.' ############ Touch display issues under Windows 10, version 1607, Anniversary update, release date August 2016 on HP EliteDisplay S230tm 58,4 cm (23') Touch Monitor (Energy Star) (E4S03AA) and generally on any touch monitor.
► Cause ► The touch problems are caused by changes in Windows Human Interface Device (HID) protocol introduced in Windows 10 version 1607. HP EliteDisplay S230tm is using on the hardware level optical touch screen technology. This is on the software level implemented by Microsoft own Human Interface Device (HID) driver, which is an integral part of Windows from version 8 and later. That is why there is no need for HP to provide any touch driver. So the EliteDisplay S230tm monitor's driver by HP describes only maximum resolution, refresh rate and sRGB Color Space Profile. From 'Symptoms ● Difficulty double-clicking in Windows 10.
● Difficulty moving objects to a new location in Windows 10. ● Single-touch actions not occurring reliably in Windows 10. Details: When touch systems communicate with the Windows operating system as a Human Interface Device, the communication includes a 'confidence flag.' The confidence flag alerts the computer that the touch system has a high confidence level the touch event was an intentional. Previous versions of the Windows operating system required the confidence flag at the beginning of the touch event.
But with the Windows 10, version 1607 update, the confidence flag is now required at the beginning and end of a touch event.' ► Possible resolution An attempt to force Windows 10 ver. 1607 to download and install correct HID drivers. ● Unplug USB cable connecting computer and the monitor and leave it unplugged. ● Run as administrator utility and. ● Update BIOS and all available firmware.
See last paragraph below. Disable unused devices in BIOS. Install Intel chipset drivers. Install all other drivers.
● Make sure monitor is enabled in Windows and has correct resolution and refresh rate set - 1920x1080@60 Hz. ● Plug in USB cable connecting computer and the monitor. Windows should automatically download and install HID touch drivers. You should get several new entries in Device Manager under both Human Interface Devices and Mice and other pointing devices. Make sure all of them are enabled and do not show any error. ● Check that Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel service is running and is set to auto start.
● Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input. ● Configure the touch display under Tablet PC Settings. ● Disable power saving for the HID-compliant touch screen. More troubleshooting tips are here:. ► There are several options below on how to obtain drivers, which you can combine to get best result.
● for the specific product ● ● or ●. Don't forget to install drivers mentioned under. Sorry to say, this does not work and has nothing to do with the actual issue. The issue is with the firmware on the HP monitor. Not with the functions of the interactions with HID. The following monitors I have confirmed to be functional (these are the only ones I have access to at the moment other than the HP): Acer T272HL (and others) DELL P2714T iiyama ProLite T2735MSC PQ Labs G4S IR Multi-Touch Overlay Hannspree Hanns.G HT 273 HPB There were no issues with the anniversary update to any of these monitors.
As stated in one of these threads, the problem is with the monitor itself. Edited Nov 2, 2016 at 12:46 UTC.
########### Can you try to install two sets of drivers: ► 1st set: Intel(R) Serial IO I2C Host Controller Intel(R) Serial IO SPI Host Controller Intel(R) Serial IO UART Host Controller Intel(R) Serial IO GPIO Host Controller Version:.05 Rev.T, 11 March 2016 Version:.05 (Latest), 1 March 2016 You can eventually use to download drivers in addition to earlier mentioned methods. ► And then 2nd set: Intel(R) Virtual Buttons Version: 1.1.0.21 Rev.A, 23 July 2015 Reboot afterwards and try the touch functions.
If the above doesn't resolve the problem. Can you rollback driver for 'HID-compliant touch screen' and/or 'USB Touchscreen controller' driver under Device manager - Mice and other pointing devices? ###########Edited: Replaced Version:.07 Rev.T, 30 December 2015 with the newer version, Version:.05 Rev.T, 11 March 2016. Edited Nov 8, 2016 at 18:24 UTC. Tnx perbauer for virtual touchpad link it's a nice feature, and yet, that does not solve the problem with typing so we are still waiting for HP to release the driver:( @Priscilla@HP first big tnx for your effort to solve this issue, but still, problem is not related only to notebooks or drivers for Intel serial ports because touch on the monitor is visible and communicate with windows. There is a mark on the screen upon touch and are handled differently for right click(long press) which means that monitor and Windows realize even the difference in touch behavior which is good handled on the driver side even now. Problem is that it seems like touch is never released so click is not finished and we are unable to click to anything. Win 10 update added one more flag for clicking event and now operating system need that flag to be set in order to handle the event and that should be very ease for HP driver developers department to solve.
We all appreciate the effort and response on HP side, but solutions with clean install, restart, check this and that are of no use Another solution if they don't have time or that is not priority or whatever, to gave the source documentation and code to community. There are developers among us and we can, in our hours of despair,:) try to fix the problem, because now is more than two months that monitors are not working and some people have 20 of these monitors that are completely useless now Checkout HP forum there is a lot threads but no one from HP answers anything related to this issue For me it's really strange that company like HP leave customers hanging for more than two months and that's why @Priscilla@HP your effort is even more appreciated. And if you cant move things further for any reason, please recommend us next instance, because support call service also didn't resolve anything. I think most people in the support are not technical enough to solve this issue and their solutions are on the level of.did you try with clean install, restart, read our manuals, click this and that. But Sir I can't click anything because touch doesn't work:). Hello @arnevandenberghe and @milanrs, thank you for your replies, and I regret that I have not moved more quickly on my escalation of this issue.
We appreciate your patience as a resolution may take time, and we can't predict the outcome. After I receive instruction from within HP on what action(s) to pursue, I will update this post. I am maintaining a list of members who are experiencing this issue and who are still awaiting a resolution. Do you mind pinging me with the product number and serial number of your EliteDisplay S230tm, your address, country, phone and email? In the meantime, our very resourceful consultant continues to pursue this issue and provides additional input for those visiting this thread.
See his reply in the next post. Edited Nov 18, 2016 at 19:00 UTC. This paragraph below from the consultant is not a resolution but an attempt to clarify the issue. ######### HP EliteDisplay S230tm touch functionality is based on optical touch technology. There are several cameras around the bezel providing information about the finger's movement for the board with processor (e.g.
ARM STM32F 405) inside the monitor. The output can be XY coordinates of the touch in form of an ordinary USB signal. Thus the need for the monitor - computer interconnecting USB cable.
It also means that all chipset and USB drivers must be correct and updated to make touch functional. HP Pavilion 23' All-in-One Desktop PC is using the same technology.
The touch system is entirely independent from the LCD panel itself and thus from the monitor's driver (LCD panel driver). Unfortunately, to complicate troubleshooting, the HP EliteDisplay S230tm is using two different types of optical touch hardware: NextWindow® Optical Touch (older monitors) USB VID1926&PIDxxxx Quanta Computer® Optical Touch (newer monitors) USB VID0408&PID3001 You can check your USB touch hardware by running. It would be great if you could post back your USB touch hardware. The touch hardware is in both cases represented as ' HID-compliant touch screen' and/or ' USB Touchscreen controller' and/or ' USB Input Device' under Device manager - Mice and other pointing devices and Human Interface Devices. Drivers for these devices should be native from Windows version 8.1. You can try to update these drivers.
So far I don't have a resolution. You could try to install manually NextWindow Voltron Touch Screen 6214 Driver Update -Another option is to try. They have a trial period for its driver. ######### Edited Nov 18, 2016 at 19:13 UTC. Hi @arnevandenberghe, As I mentioned to you this morning in our email, I would send your inquiry regarding your hardware ID, to our consultant.
Here is the speedy and informative reply back from our consultant. ########### Thanks. You have three USB devices with Quanta Computer® Optical Touch vendor ID: USB VID0408&PID3026. Two of them are USB Input Devices using: USB Miniport Driver for Input Devices by Microsoft Corporation. Startup type: Manual Driver Filename: hidusb.sys Driver Version: 10.0. 14393.351 This corresponds with ( OS Build 14393.351).
This update among others 'Addressed additional issues with USB, Wi-Fi, clustering.' There is a newer update available KB3200970 (November 8, 2016, OS Build 14393.447). The third device is a USB Composite Device using: USB Common Class Generic Parent Driver by Microsoft Corporation. Startup type: Manual Driver Filename: usbccgp.sys Driver Version: 10.0. 14393.0 This corresponds with Windows 10 version 1607 without updates. There is apparently a mismatch of USB driver’s versions.
I don't know whether this is correct or usbccgp.sys has not been updated. What I know that often such a mismatch can cause devices not to operate. It would be worth to try to update usbccgp.sys if available. Another option is to try to uninstall KB3197954. The startup type for these two services above is manual.
I would change it to automatic and also disable power saving function for these devices. What is confusing to me that I have not found a single article describing any touch issue at all on HP Pavilion 23 TouchSmart All-in-One Desktop series, which is using the same optical touch technology. Microsoft repeatedly states in: ' Microsoft provides the HID class driver (Hidclass.sys) and the miniclass driver (Hidusb.sys) to operate devices that comply with the.
For more information, see and. For further information about Windows support for input hardware, see the website.' The optical touch device USB VID0408&PID3026 advertises itself correctly as, which again correctly corresponds with HID (Human Interface Device). The device is apparently compliant with USB HID Standard.
That is why, so far, HP has not had any reason or need to provide touch drivers for this device for Windows version 8 and higher. As Priscilla@HP has written in her earlier post she has escalated the issue. We have to wait till she receives instruction from within HP. ########### Cheers, Cheron@HPI R esponding for Priscilla@HPI who is on vacation.
This is Cheron responding for Priscilla who is on vacation. Thanks again Perbauer and Arnevandenberghe for both your responses. And especially thanks Perbauer for confirmation that the 'works nicely' with the HP EliteDisplay S230tm 58,4 cm (23') Touch Monitor (Energy Star) (E4S03AA). Our consultant has some helpful updates that I would like to share with you both.
######### Perbauer wrote: 'Just to be clear. I do have more USB devices but I only attached the three that where from USB VID0408. I had none that where from USB VID1926.
In total there where of course more then these three.' Yes, we have understood your earlier post as intended and described above. The touch hardware in the monitor is either USB VID1926&PIDxxxx = NextWindow® Optical Touch (older monitors) or USB VID0408&PID3xxx = Quanta Computer® Optical Touch (newer monitors). It can't be both in one monitor.
That is why any NextWindow driver is not applicable in your case and there is no point even to download the NextWindow driver nor trying to install it. Arnevandenberghe Thanks. There are several ways how to change service startup type. Run Regedit in Command prompt (Admin). Go to: HKEYLOCALMACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services HidUsb HKEYLOCALMACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services usbccgp Change REGDWORD variable Start value accordingly (from 3 manual to 2 automatic in your case) and reboot computer: 0x0 Boot 0x1 System 0x2 Automatic 0x3 Manual 0x4 Disabled 'I have no clue on how to change power saving functions.' Device manager - select corresponding device (2 x USB Input Device, 1 x USB Composite Device in this case, eventually HID-compliant touch screen, USB Touchscreen controller) - Properties - Power management - remove the tick from Allow the computer to turn off.
Also: Control panel - Power options - Change advanced power settings KB3197954 - look at: Control panel - Programs and features - View installed updates ######### Cheers, Cheron for Priscilla@HP.
